OFF THE GRID: CHINA: JADE DRAGON SNOW MOUNTAIN
JADE DRAGON SNOW MOUNTAIN
To the north of the beautiful city of Lijiang towers the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, a sacred sanctuary which has protected the ethnic minorities and their unique cultures since ancient times. Resembling a slumbering dragon, the fog-enshrouded and snow-coated mountain rises to 18,000 feet above sea level, with its main peak – Shanzidou, ranking among the tallest glaciers in the world. Follow the trail of nomadic herders leading their livestock and yaks to graze at Yak Meadow or learn of the traditional customs of the minority Naxi, Lishu, Pumi & Moshuo people who call this area home. Hike along alpine meadows & virgin forests, travel by cable car to reach vistas of pure white snow, or visit the Blue Moon Valley where melting snow has created four lakes of luminous blue waters.
